History
The Middlewich Community Bowling Club is run independently and receives no financial support from any third parties. All funds required to maintain the club is raised from membership fees and match fees, The club is a non-profit organisation but we have many dedicated members who volunteer their time to help keep the greens and borders in great condition.
The Middlewich Community Bowling green was established in 1919 as the Middlewich Alkaline Sports and social club, initially providing facilities for the employees of Middlewich ICI.
In the later years a bowling green was installed and opened to all members of the local community. The club became a popular venue for crown green bowling in Cheshire, holding major competitions and was the first club to have floodlight competitions.
In the early seventies the club was acquired by Pochins Group as part of their acquisition of the land owned by ICI and continued under their ownership until around 2020.
The club premises are currently owned by the Canalside Conference Centre and Middlewich Church.
Reach Out Programme
The clubs reach out programme is to help connect local community groups, individuals and clubs. It provides an environment for co-operative learning, to develop hand-eye co-ordination in a friendly social environment.
We offer free welcome days to allow local people to try bowling, giving them the opportunity to try a new experience, encourage new learning with support from some of our volunteers.
Our future goals and spirations are to expand the out reach programme to include local schools, businesses and organisations to local people in the Middlewich community.
